iPad Mini 4 : Review

Image
iPad Mini 4 review: A long wait makes for a potent upgrade. Fans of Apple's smaller iPad Mini caught a tough break last fall when the company unveiled its new tablets for the year. Although Tim Cook & co. lavished plenty of attention on the faster, slimmed-down  iPad Air 2 , the upgraded  iPad Mini 3  was regarded as a mere afterthought. The list of changes was so short, in fact, that some of us wondered why Apple would introduce a performance gap between the Air and Mini lines. Still more people wondered when they'd get a Mini with enough power to match its larger sibling. Turns out, the answer was "a year later." I've been testing the new  iPad Mini 4  for over a week now and can say with confidence this is the Mini we should've gotten last year. Note: Due to long length of the article, it has been splitted into 3 fragments. Click "Next" at the end to continue. Summary After a yearlong wait, we finally have a properly

How Much Money Facebook Gets From Selling Your Data.

Image
Mark Zuckerberg is making bank on your information. While Facebook’s spokespeople did not reply to our inquiries, we will offer one clarification in their defense: They do not “sell off” data, technically. They sell a service to advertisers. Looking to peddle your hemp-rope macramé vests? Facebook will happily take your money and use algorithms to serve your ads to a carefully curated subset of its users. Those with no taste perhaps. Or no arms. As for the “worth” of your data, to derive a (very) crude estimate, one could take Facebook’s 2018 first-quarter revenue ($11.97 billion), divide by the number of active users (1.45 billion), and come up with about $8.25 per quarter, or $33 a year. But that’s not necessarily a useful calculation. In fact, it would be well nigh impossible for anyone outside the company to figure out exactly how much an individual’s data was worth, and it might be difficult even for Maestro Zuckerberg himself. That’s because users are not parceled

Verizon's Galaxy S8 and S8+ get Daydream VR support through new update

Image
Verizon's Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now in the process of receiving a new software update each. This will arrive in the next few days over-the-air, and after you install it your handset will be on software version G950USQU1AQG4 if you have the S8, and G955USQU1AQG4 if your phone is the S8+. The key new feature that these updates bring is support for Google's Daydream VR platform. Hopefully in this case you'll be able to use Daydream right away, unlike what happened with T-Mobile's S8 and S8+ earlier this month. The new release also gives you the ability to send animated GIFs while you're engaged in a phone call. For this to work you need to have Profile Sharing enabled in the Contacts app. Finally, you can now toggle a new navigation bar button that, when tapped, will hide the bar, thus letting you take advantage of the entire height of your device's Infinity Display. Microsoft Paint isn't dead yet...

Image
The internet lost its collective mind when news began doing the rounds yesterday about Microsoft killing off its beloved Paint app after 32 years. If you’re nostalgic about the doodling app that enthralled a couple of generations of Windows fans, you’ll be glad to know it’s not actually going away entirely. Instead of being bundled with Windows 10, it’ll henceforth be available as a free download from the Windows Store. Meanwhile, Paint 3D, which arrived on the OS with the Creators Update, will become the default image creation tool on Windows 10, and will continue to be updated. Phew! Glad that didn’t take an awful turn, like we saw with excellent products like Google Reader, Wunderlist, Sunrise, and Yahoo News Digest in recent times.

Get ready to finally say goodbye to Flash — in 2020

Image
Adobe today  announced  that  Flash , the once-ubiquitous plugin that allowed you to play your  first Justin Bieber video  on YouTube and  Dolphin Olympics 2  on Kongregate, will be phased out by the end of 2020. At that point, Adobe will stop updating and distributing Flash. Until then, Adobe will still partner with the likes of  Apple ,  Mozilla ,  Microsoft  and  Google  to offer security updates for Flash in their browsers and support new versions of them, but beyond that, Adobe will not offer any new Flash features. Adobe also notes that it plans to be more aggressive about ending support for Flash "in certain geographies where unlicensed and outdated versions of Flash Player are being distributed." To some degree, today's announcement doesn't come as a major surprise. Given its wide distribution, Flash (and especially outdated versions of it) quickly became one of the main targets for hackers, and Flash offered them plenty of avenues for trying to g

Doctors are wearing the new Google Glass while seeing patients

Image
"The Glass on the doctor's face beams the audio and visual from the conversation to a remote scribe." (Augmedix) You could be forgiven for assuming that Glass, Google's head-mounted augmented-reality device, had been effectively dead since 2015. But as Google’s sister company X, the Moonshot Factory, announced on Tuesday, the project has been pivoting to a business-to-business model over the past two years. The new, updated version of the device is known as Glass Enterprise Edition, and it’s been put to use at companies like Boeing, DHL—and in your physician’s office. Going to the doctor today is “a pretty tragic experience,” says Ian Shakil, the CEO and co-founder of a company called Augmedix. Its platform enables physicians to wear Glass Enterprise Edition as they see patients, while remote medical scribes fill out the electronic medical records based on what they hear and see from the visit. The integrated display on Glass can be used to provide the doc

Finally, a tablet that folds up into a phone that fits in your pocket.

Image
Lenovo is back at blowing minds again with another concept device with a bendable screen.  At the third annual Lenovo Tech World last week, the Chinese tech giant wowed attendees with the Lenovo Folio, a tablet with a screen that folds in half into a phone. Before you start getting too excited, you should know that the Folio is a concept device, which means it may not be released as a consumer product anytime soon. Even so, that doesn't make the device any less impressive. The tablet has a 7.8-inch screen with 1,920 x 1,440 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and runs Android 7.0 Nougat. It's not exactly peak performance in 2017, but that's not why'd you want this thing — you'd want it for the bendable screen. When folded, the tablet shrinks down into a 5.5-inch phone that could fit into your pocket. As you can see in the demo videos above and below, the display folds neatly in half with pixels filling all the space where a hinge w

Galaxy Note 8

Image
More Note 8 leaks arrive ahead of official launch. The Note 8 is almost upon us, and as with all phone launches, we pretty much know what we’re getting with the new phablet. The usual stream of leaks and rumours have left little to the imagination when it comes Samsung’s Note 7 follow-up, with the official ‘Unpacked’ event – set for August 23. But just in case you needed another pre-release look at the device, smartphone case maker Spigen has posted a few renders of the phone The Note 8, encased in Spigen cases, appears in a couple of images posted to  Slashleaks  this past weekend, seemingly confirming a few of the rumoured design features. If the design shown off in the shots is accurate, which at this point certainly seems likely, you can expect much of the mooted features to be present on the device. That includes the edge-to-edge ‘Infinity Display’ first seen on this year’s Galaxy S8 , along with the lack of a physical home button, and a dual-camera se

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Explosion

Image
After Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 catches fire. The user whose phone burst into flames was however compensated with a new device. Exploding phone batteries instantly remind people of burning Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones. A recent event might add another experience to their list. In a video that went viral online, a smartphone allegedly Xiaomi Redmi Note 4  is shown catching fire whilst the retailer was in the middle of inserting a sim into the device in a store. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera of the shop where the mishap took place. The incident has since been widely reported in the media. The explosion of the batteries is,however, justified with the 'battery over heating' due to 'over charging' clauses. The video allegedly shows that the smartphone was not connected to any external apparatus
